Everybody in Our Family / Toatã lumea din familia noastrã (Romania/Netherlands, 2012)

directed by Radu Jude, drama/comedy, 107 min, eng subtitles
written by Radu Jude, Corina Sabãu
with Șerban Pavlu, Sofia Nicolaescu, Mihaela Sîrbu, Gabriel Spahiu

After having made a stop at CinEast last year with The Happiest Girl in the World, Radu Jude returns with Everybody in Our Family dragging the spectator - with cruel humour - into the whirl of toxic family relations.
Marius is a divorced man in his late thirties. His ex-wife, Otilia, remarried an accountant. Their five year-old daughter Sofia lives with her mother, which causes Marius a deep frustration. According to the law, Marius can spend with his daughter only a limited amount of time. On the day Marius arrives to take his daughter for a weekend on the seaside, he finds out that his daughter is ill and his ex-wife is not at home. Following this minor incident, the situation gets out of control with all the family taking part in a web of humour, violence, children's songs, police interventions, love statements, blood and even a haiku.
